Mr. Garrett Wilkinson (1915-1999) is most fondly remembered by Bertram for his whimsical metal folk art. His sculptures numbered well over a hundred and are found around Texas, in many other States, and as far away as England. Fortunately, many are still in the area. In the city, look for many of his masterpieces at the intersection of Vaughan and East Streets and further to the east on Vaughan.

Guy Jeffery Goble has both Bertram and art in his genes. He was born to Billie Joe and Carole Ann (Normann) Goble; Terrell Hutto, a founder of Farmers State Bank was Guy’s great, great grandfather. Guy’s grandparents were noted artists Charles Berkeley and and F.V.”Fran” Normann… They are best known for their painting The Reading of the Texas Declaration of Independence which hangs at the Star of the Republic Museum at Washington on the Brazos. Many of their paintings are in museums and private collections across the country. Guy is a graduate of the University of Texas with a fine arts degree, but began winning honors for his art in high school. He works in all media, and his watercolor paintings of historic buildings are favorites with patrons. Guy is presently working on the third mural in his home town of Bertram. The first was on the wall of the old Potts and Ater building where he had the help of his artistic family, including his famous grandmother. Sadly, that building burned and had to be razed. In addition to murals, Goble’s talent has led him to design various T-shirts and commemorative buttons for events such as the Oatmeal Festivals and Bertram’s 125th Birthday celebration in 2007.
