Atmos Energy, October Business

of the Month

Congratulations to Atmos Energy for being chosen as the October Business of the Month.

A compassion to give back to the communities they serve flows through the heart and soul of each of the 4,800 employees of Atmos Energy. Whether it is through reading to students, working in local food banks, or showing their appreciation to hometown heroes, the employees at Atmos Energy continue to invest in the communities they call home. Fueling Safe and Thriving Communities captures what their employees have done for years and continue to do each and every day. Atmos Energy is pleased to support the Bertram Community and to be a part of the Bertram Chamber of Commerce. They look forward to many more years of partnership in serving the community.

Evan Milliorn of the Bertram Economic Development Corporation gave the presentation for the October Chamber luncheon. He explained the role of the EDC in the community and shared some of the goals of the Bertram EDC.

Their current goals are to expand the tax base, enhance and promote the community in order to elevate the quality of life in the community, help develop and maintain a positive business environment, and increase Bertram's visibility from a local to national level.

The EDC is currently focusing on marketing with videos and reels being created to show what the town has to offer. They are also expanding the mural locations within the city as a way to preserve history while driving people to the downtown area. The wayfinding signs are a way to let passersby on Highway 29 know that there is a downtown area just off the highway. Plans are being discussed in regard to utilizing the city parking lot and the grassy area adjacent to it to create a larger parking area for downtown.

Several types of grants are also available through the EDC including matching business improvement grants, grants for signage, and demolition grants. Each grant has specific requirements and caps to the amounts that are available.

Business retention is also an area of focus for the EDC. They are currently visiting with local businesses for the purpose of thanking them for their investment in the community as well as seeing if there is anything the EDC can do to help the business thrive.
